My own academic background is in the Arts and Humanities (BA Hons, MA) and Law (GDL, BPTC, Bar). Prior to starting Proof-Ed., I worked as an editorial assistant and journal manager for a small academic publisher based in Sheffield, U.K., for around 5 years. Working for a small publisher had big advantages; I was able to see the process of academic publication for both journals and books in a range of fields right from the conception of the author through to the print and selling of the finished product. I was able to get an excellent overview of the academic publishing world during my time in Sheffield and I began to get noticed for my ability to spot errors and ambiguities in manuscripts just before they were due for print(!). This kickstarted my interest in editing and I started Proof-Ed. as a small business, initially specialising in religious and biblical studies. Over the last decade, I have edited a range of different types of academic work including PhD theses, journal articles, monographs, and co-edited books covering a range of academic fields and disciplines including archaeology, architecture, biblical studies, business studies, craft sciences, film studies, law, media studies, mental health nursing, music, nursing, philosophy, psychology, religious studies, sociology, theology, and town-planning. Many of the academics I work with are published by prestigious companies and university presses. I am particularly skilled at assisting students and academics who have English as an additional language, and my pedagogical approach to language revision when editing their work is something which has kept many of my EFL clients returning to me again and again over the years. I welcome enquiries from anyone who is looking for some assistance with language revision and who may feel underconfident in their written English language.

In addition to academic editing, I have also worked for small businesses on marketing brochures and newsletters, and for King’s Counsel applicants who wish for a keen pair of eyes to look over their written application.

Since late 2017, I have taken on larger copyediting tasks for academic publishers in Sweden and the UK, including co-edited books, festschrifts, and anthologies. I welcome enquiries from any publishers who are interested in my copyediting services. I also have experience in indexing manuscripts for publication.
