Proof-Ed provides proofreading and editing services to professionals and students at competitive hourly rates. Some proofreading and editing services charge customers per correction, but I prefer to charge for my services at hourly rates so that I am able to give an accurate estimate of pricing to my customers in advance of their agreement to use Proof-Ed’s services. I also want my customers to feel confident that I only make changes which are necessary to improve the quality of their writing. My rates are fair and reflect how much time I will need to spend on their work – whether they are experienced professional writers of English or student EFL learners.

Proof-Ed can provide a page rate to publishers if preferred.

Books, Articles and Chapters

Proofreading/editing of books, articles and chapters is charged at a set hourly rate.

I have two set rates. Straightforward proofreading is recommended for those who have a high level of competency in English and academic writing style already. Proofreading with some basic editing is recommended for those who have English as a foreign language or who would like some assistance improving their academic writing style. I tend to make a recommendation of which rate will suit the customer once I have read a sample text. Unless a manuscript has been accepted for publication as it stands, it is likely that some editing will be beneficial.

Both rates are competitive and I am pleased to offer a discount of 10% for all students, early career researchers, and those who are unwaged (including those outside of the UK) for work on books, articles and chapters (please see the link below on the proofreading of PhD theses).

Estimations are provided in advance of the customer agreeing to use the service and are given as a range. I only ever charge my customers for the time it has taken me to read their work.

I ask that customers enquiring about the proofreading of a large manuscript contact me as soon as possible to ensure that I have the availability and that I can complete the work in time to allow them to make corrections before, for example, publisher or supervisory deadlines.

Student Dissertations and PhD Theses

I offer a competitive set hourly rate on dissertations and PhD theses. If you would like me to give you an estimation of time and cost, please contact me with a representative sample of your work. This is established by taking into account your level of competency in English, academic writing style and referencing skill, as well as word/page count.

Indexing Services

I offer an indexing service for academic monologues, manuscripts and textbooks. Rates are competitive and are charged at a set hourly rate. I ask that customers give me a list/lists of terms/names to index (and sources, if relevant).
