September 2025

Hi folks! It has been such a long time without a post from me on Proof-Ed.com and I realised that there is no time like the present! I am alive, kicking, and still editing, so if you are looking for a reader, please do consider getting in touch. I am currently going over the website so that everything is up to date but, as always, if you have queries about my work or availability, please do not hesitate to send me an email to sarah[@]proof-ed.com and I’ll get back to you quickly.

As we are now beginning the start of a new academic year, I have plenty of availability for editing, indexing, and proofreading – but this might not last, so do get in touch as soon as you can to avoid any disappointment! In the last few years the vast majority of the work I have undertaken has been for students and researchers who have English as a second language (though this is by no means a requirement of my clients!). My approach is to edit using tracked changes and comments/questions/suggestions in the side bar. I do not use complex terminology or editing symbolism; my changes are intended to be easy to understand and implement. My clients come from all over the world. In recent years I have worked for post-graduates and academics from Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, China, and, of course, the United Kingdom.
In the last couple of years I have also taken on editing for long-term projects, such as an online encyclopedia which is updated monthly. I am also interested in proofreading for businesses who are promoting themselves via brochures and newsletters (or similar). This work generally takes a short amount of time and if you are looking for someone who can read this kind of material quickly, it is always worth making an enquiry about my availability.

Don’t be shy! Get in touch!

Kind regards,

Sarah

December 2021 – current availability

A Christmas Greeting

To all of my customers in 2020:

I wanted to wish you all a very happy Christmas this year, and to say that I hope that wherever you are in the world, you are healthy and hopeful for 2021.

2020 has been a difficult year for many. I would like to send every single one of you my sincere gratitude for using my services this year. It is not an exaggeration at all to say that you have helped me to pay rent and bills, you have kept me eating well, and your work has kept me sane and suitably distracted! From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you, and especially to those who continue to return to my services and/or recommend me to colleagues. I truly appreciate it.

I hope that 2021 can be a good year for all of us!

With my warmest wishes,

Sarah, Proof-Ed.

Autumn/Winter 2020 Availability

I hope everyone has been keeping well over the last few months, wherever you are in the world. I am grateful to all of those who have asked me to read for them during what has, and continues to be, a very difficult time for freelancers.

At the moment, I have a large number of ongoing and late-running projects which I am trying to juggle. Covid-19 has affected many of the schedules I had in place before the UK’s lockdown, and I am sure the same can be said for other freelancers working in the publishing industry: projects have been delayed as writers have been physically or mentally affected by Covid-19, designers and typesetters have been inundated with work from publishers who are trying to create digital content as quickly as possible, printers have had to temporarily stop production, and some projects which have continued as normal have then been delayed in paying those who have worked on them. I ask that all of my customers and anyone reading this who requires a freelancer to be kind and patient with us at the moment. I know many of my colleagues have struggled significantly over the last three months. Many of us have been in the odd position of having plenty of work but little payment, forcing us to take on further work while also having to re-arrange deadlines to meet customer needs. This has not been an easy task, but it is made much easier if those we are assisting are understanding and patient.

With the above in mind, I have decided not to take on any additional work until December. This is to give me time to complete my existing commitments and to try to feel “on top” of the tasks on my to-do list.

I hope that those reading this post will understand this decision and will consider contacting me to read future projects.

Once again, I would like to thank those who have sent work to me over the last few months, particularly the individual customers who have been prompt with payment and kind with words. I truly appreciate it.

With kind regards,

Sarah, Proof-Ed.

Wishing You All A Happy 2020!

On this, the 1st of January 2020, I would like to wish all of my customers a very happy and healthy 2020. As always, I would like to thank you for your continued custom, and for the recommendations that many of you have made to your colleagues and friends. Proof-Ed is just me, and I’m so grateful to be able to share my service with you. I look forward to reading more from you this year.

With kind regards,

Sarah

No current availability (Nov/Dec 2019)

Hi everyone!

A quick post to let potential customers know that, at the moment, I do not have any availability for November or December. This is one of the busiest times of the year for copyeditors and proofreaders, so it is always best to have booked a spot in the diary well in advance.

It is possible that space will be freed up for short articles (8000 words or less), but please do not be disappointed if I cannot take these on should you wish to email me.

January 2020 is also looking busy, but I have some limited space for articles. If you wish to have an article read at this time, please contact me as soon as you can.

With kind regards,

Sarah

Availability up to December 2019

Hello everyone,

Please note that I am now fully booked for PhD theses and large manuscripts until the end of November 2019. I may have some availability for shorter pieces (such as journal articles or individual thesis chapters) from October, so please contact me should you have a short piece of writing that you want me to take a look at.

Thank you for visiting my website!

Sarah

Spring/Summer 2019 – Updated!

Hi everyone,

My circumstances have changed slightly since the earlier post on Spring/Summer availability. Please see below for an update:

May: no availability
June: limited availability – short pieces only
July: limited availability – short pieces only
August: no availability for the first half, but I should have good availability from the second half of August into September

As always, contact me as soon as you can if you would like me to read something. I can reserve you a place in my diary. Often I am able to take on work at short notice (especially if it is a journal article or something of equally short length), but I can’t always make the deadlines if I am given just a couple of days to read, and I hate to disappoint!

If in doubt, don’t hesitate to just ask!

Sarah @ Proof-Ed.

Spring/Summer 2019

Hello visitors!

An update on availability over the coming months:

April – no availability
May – no availability
June – some availability (especially for shorter pieces of work), please enquire sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment!
July – plenty of availability
August – some availability

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you are wondering whether I might have time to read for you!

I apologise for the lack of availability in April and May as I know these are busy times for academics and students trying to complete work before the summer. I am working hard copyediting two large co-edited volumes and two single-authored monographs.

As always, thank you for visiting my site and considering my services.

Sarah @ Proof-Ed.
